well, then it's not I guess - thanks anyways Question: is there any way in the uefi to switch the master gpu without physical moving of the cards? or would it require some modified uefi?ĭon't worry if you can't help - even if you just tell me "move the cards around" - this is just a question if what I'd like to achieve is even possible without hacking the bios - if it's not.

Issue: as my 290x is in the first primary slot and hence gets full x16 it's the one used for the uefi and boot and all that stuff - but as I plan to set up a linux using the nvid card as hypervisor to set up a VM with passthrough I'd like to change the primary gpu to the nvid one instead of the amd one but without switchin them physically around (two reasons: a) IDK if the amd one would get full x16 when not in the primary slot and b) it's physically very hard due to the way I routed the pci-e power cables - which aren't long enough if the card is installed in the lower slot) My current install: r9 290x in first x16 slot - gt1030 in third x16 slot (the x16/x8 one) (side-note: although the nvid is in the 2nd full x16 slot it's only connected with x4 - guess the board sees that the two gpus are not equal and hence doesn't enable multi-gpu but uses the 2nd gpu just on its own - hence the x4 link - or maybe it's just the card only using x4 - IDK)
